In all of the anxiety attacks I've had, I never realized how breathing the wrong way can actually cause the anxiety attacks. You may feel as though you can't catch your breath, shortness of breath. And this just causes this inmense fear because you fear that you're going to die. I know this feeling. Then all of this fear escalates to other physical symptoms and there we go: panic attacks. And sometimes you are around others that don't understand and they just tell you "take a deep breath" or "there you go again, just breathe, youre fine". Very comforting, isn't it? NOT!
Do you know why at times we may feel as though we can't breathe? We forget to exhale and that makes it difficult to catch your breath. You need to exhale before taking in a deep breath. Try it. Exhale all the way and then take a deep breath and keep doing so. You need to breathe from your belly instead of your chest. Try laying down and putting one hand on your belly and practice breathing with your belly instead of your chest. Exhale and watch your belly go in. Take a deep breath and watch your stomach expand. Do this for a few minutes and see how it makes you feel. When you feel anxious, try the breathing exercise. Try it when you first get up in the morning and then before bedtime. It becomes a habit as soon as you master it.
Remember: exhale and then inhale
